let me start this blog off by saying I LOVE horror movies, Horror fans are amazing and Social Media is a HUGE part of this movie's success.
Topic #1 HORROR FANS :
First off I want to thank the 1,191 people from across the globe who have visited our indiegogo campaign page that number is huge for us :) I LOVE all horror fans we are a weird, odd, strange, group of people who all share the love of Jason, Michael, Freddy, Pinhead, Chucky, Ghostface etc.
We are a passionate group of fans who love our favorites and will battle anyone that disagrees with our thoughts on our favorite of the baddies. I'm guilty of it myself for an example on a Horror Group page on Facebook someone posted a picture and asked who your favorite killer is there was a brady bunch style picture of killers (They left off Ghostface) so in the comments I posted that my favorite killer is Mortis from my film Sins of Man : Rise of Mortis (hey I created him what can I say) I received several (37) inbox messages from group members telling me to "pick from the pictured killers and stop the shameless self promotion" .
I find this offensive on many levels Mortis is my favorite killer because I created him and as far as "Shameless self promotion" If I don't put the movie out there who will ? I answered the question honestly and yet that wasn't good enough for 37 people to take it upon themselves to inbox me to complain that I didn't post a proper response to the question asked.
I'll say it again I LOVE HORROR FANS because I am one first and foremost I'm a HORROR FAN just like ALL of you. If you asked Wes Craven, Sean Cunningham or Kevin Williamson who their favorite killer is don't you think their answer would be the one(s) they created ?
Topic #2 HORROR MOVIES
I LOVE HORROR MOVIES all the Classics Friday The 13th, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Halloween, Childs Play and Scream are among my favorites.
As a film maker I have to walk a fine line of honoring the past while looking to the future of horror films. What I mean by this is when I wrote Sins of Man : Rise of Mortis I paid attention to the great films of the past and worked references to them in the script for SoM out of respect for those that came before me while at the same time I created a new killer and made it my own story.
I really went out of my way to pay respect to the classic slasher films of the past from Halloween to Friday the 13th I even have references to A Nightmare on Elm Street and Childs Play in this movie as well as Scream.
Because I feel without the knowledge of the past we can't move forward I learned so much as a writer from watching John Carpenter's Halloween and Kevin Williamson's Scream. they were my two biggest influences on writing Wes Craven's Scream and John Carpenter's Halloween were also huge influences on my directing and storytelling style.
TOPIC #3 SOCIAL MEDIA
Social Media has changed the way the world works weather it be good or bad it has changed the world, Twitter has made it easy for an indy film maker like myself to have access to horror fans world wide with a few taps on a keyboard from the US all the way to South America, Europe, Asia , and Africa have seen the trailer for Sins of Man : Rise of Mortis .
Facebook has groups dedicated to Horror movies, characters and hell even decades of horror, they are all great and one of my friends who has a film coming out called The Mime check it out we are trying to start movement online that Horror film makers don't need to COMPETE with each other we should be helping each other to make as much great horror as we can, I used this last time we had a chat. I said If you sell 1,000 DVD's and I sell 200 I'm going to say hey man you did 5 times more sales then I did what did you do that I didn't ? I'm going to learn a better way to do things and pass that knowledge on to someone else and so forth and so on. We are all creative people who should HELP each other succeed and when one of us fails we help them up and push then to succeed next time.
I know the object of all of this is to make money and all that but why do we have to tear each other down when it's a hell of alot easier to build each other up. Jesse always ends his interviews by asking his guest(s) what advice would you give to someone looking to make a film ? my awnser
" Always believe that you can do it, don't let ANYONE tell you that you can't, no matter how hard things get or how big the mountain is infront of you is, you WILL succeed if YOU believe you will, No one believes in YOU more then YOU do" .
This comes from everything myself my cast and crew went through during Production on the movie.
1. We had a set burn to the ground after the first weekend of shooting (this location was the main shooting location) we moved production in a weeks time to a second location and everything was fine after that.
2. We had cast members forget to come to set and had to rewrite the final portion of the film while on set to reflect the change.
3. We had to hire an actress at a location on the spot to fill the role she was amazing .
4. We had to do two days of reshoots, we had to recast a girl in the opening scenes of the movie due to the original actresses schedule.
These were just a few of the things we dealt with while shooting this movie and if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't change a thing because everything we dealt with made us a stronger unit and made us all want to see each other succeed and thus the movie succeed.
Please check out http://igg.me/at/SoMRoM if you want to help make the DVD a reality we have cool perks up for grabs . THANK YOU ALL for Your Continued support :)
