I'm going to be starting up my movie review videos again for youtube as well as here on the website I will be doing Halloween Resurrection next and then either finishing up the Halloween series with the two Rob Zombie Movies or I'm going to start pouncing around to different movies that I feel like talking about mainly focusing on horror movies but I might throw in a few non horror movies once in awhile as well to keep you fans on your toes .

Well it's that time again when I open the Sins of Man : Rise of Mortis Mail and answer some questions for you fans :) QUESTION : What type of books do you read ?? ANSWER : I'm a big reader of biographies and believe it or not old comic books, I like Hawkeye (there have been a few short run series that I've collected) I also like to read anything that I can learn something from . If I had to name some favorite books .. Hollywood Monster by Robert Englund Crystal Lake Memories by Peter M. Bracke Spellbound by Beauty by Alfred Hitchcock That's My Story And I'm Stickin' To It by Spike Lee QUESTION : Do you consider yourself a "fanboy" ?? ANSWER : LOL I have to say yes I guess, I love horror movies and have alot of autographs on my walls in my office and I pride myself on knowing most of my favorite movies and series inside and out so I guess that makes me a fanboy n some level. I also have 100's of wrestling, sports and Hollywood autographs So I guess I'm a multi level fanboy . I admit it. QUESTION : What political party to you align yourself with . ANSWER : I don't "align" myself with any party really I simply try to vote for whomever is the best choice for what we need at the time of the election . QUESTION : What do you watch on TV ? ANSWER : I love a wide variety of shows but mainly comic book shows , Arrow is my favorite. Agents of Shield and Agent Carter are both good,I like The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow is really good, Supergirl, Gotham has been incredible this year. I also like Scream, I'm looking forward to the Friday The 13th TV series later this year. I enjoy Criminal Minds, Baskets, Scream Queens was awesome too. QUESTION : DC or Marvel ?? ANSWER : Both I'm not going to single out one company over the other because they both put out AMAZING work ! QUESTION : What do you think about the use of pot for medical purposes ? QUESTION : What is your main interest outside of writing ,directing your own films ? ANSWER : I enjoy watching wrestling Ring of Honor is my favorite promotion (even though I wrote that scathing blog late last night about last nights PPV). my favorite wrestlers are Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly collectively known as ReDRagon they are two legit bad asses who could easily step foot in the world of MMA and become champions. (Bobby Fish has done some MMA in the past) QUESTION : What do you do when you get stuck writing or writers block I guess you'd call it ? ANSWER : There are a number of things I do personally to fix a block, I'll watch a classic Slasher movie to get some ideas or I'mm contact my Executive Producer Chris Fyfe and we'll bounce ideas off each other until we get something I can work with . (this is usually the fast way for me to get over a block) QUESTION : Do you ever think about getting out of the blood and guts world of horror and tackling other genres of film ? ANSWER : Yes I have, as I have said many times I'm comfortable writing horror / slasher films because as I've been told you write what you know. I have many scripts finished that aren't horror, I have action films, romance films I think writing "chick flicks" is alot of fun believe it or not. Some of my favorite movies of all time are romantic comedies and romantic movies films like I Love You Beth Cooper and It's Kind of A Funny Story are great films in my opinion . After Wicked Carnival in 2017 and the conclusion of the Sins of Man trilogy in 2018 I may work on a romantic movie or a coming of age story, who knows what the future holds for me as an artist and writer ... In closing I want to express again how freakin' awesome it is to get an inbox full of questions and to interact with horror fans on a global scale, you guys and gals are awesome! Keep the questions coming and I'll answer them as quickly as I can :)
STAY HUMBLE, STAY HUNGRY MY FRIENDS :) I said to someone recently "that most of the time writing horror comes easy to me" and Wow we went from a nice conversation to me rubbing my skills in their face and I was like "what the fuck are you talking about" !?!?? I think the phrase "writing horror comes easy to me" pisses people off and I really can't figure out why ?? I look at it differently then most people I guess I'm not sitting at my desk trying to create the next great screenplay, I'm not writing to win any screenplay contests, that's not to say I'm not writing the best I can because I am what I mean is I write what I know and what I'm passionate about and that's horror scripts / screenplays . It's not exactly fuckin' rocket science people , come on lighten the fuck up already! Who is mortis ...This sick son of a bitch is Mortis. Mortis has an ax to grind with the people of Sandy Creek Maine (Not a real place so stop asking) so he sets out to slash, stab, shoot, beat and kill as many of the fuckers as he can before he gets caught or killed, it practically writes itself . You know what's funny ?? ALOT of shit so get a fuckin' grip people !! Horror is fun to write because I can take all the sick, twisted, fucked up things I wish I could do to people and put them on paper and it's 100% legal I can kill 10 people in a 90 minute movie and I don't go to jail, see the beauty in it now ?? You can't argue with a fact ...I know there are people out there that have been working on the same script for weeks, months and God forbid even years and I'm over here having written 3 scripts in less then 30 days. If that sounds cocky or arrogant that's your opinion but the FACT is I did write three scripts in less then 30 days and you simply can't argue a FACT. Now people seem to think that I went right into writing the script for Sins of Man without doing any leg work and that's not true at all, I did a ton of leg work, research and planning out the characters, the story, the killer and the backstory that goes along with the character, I wrote out all the kills first and built the rest of the script around them. I wrote all three first drafts so quickly because I was driven, passionate about the subject matter and had a complete story in mind. helping other writers ....I always try to help other writers when I can because it's important to help others, I have said it a bunch of times everyone has to start some where and I have had a ton of help from people that have an understanding of what I'm trying to to accomplish and want to see me succeed. I'm really a humble person and I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging when I say I have written three scripts in less then 30 days, I know many of you feel that is bragging but again I wrote the first drafts of the Sins of Man Trilogy in less then 30 days and no it honestly wasn't that hard, because I had a plan from the beginning of Rise of Mortis to the end of Sins of Man III . I follow the same process when ever I write a new script because it works for me, if it doesn't work for you, I can't help that, can I ?? I know what works from me and what doesn't and I'm successful with my way of doing things because I'm working on my second film Sins of Man II : Vengeance. As far as people being pissed off because I say out loud the writing horror comes easy to me, that's really your problem, not mine. I put alot of effort into my work, I know what works and what doesn't and I don't spend alot of time looking over things. I write what I'm passionate about and if that's stabbing the shit outta people that's what I'm going to write . That's not saying that writers that take weeks, months or even years working on a single script aren't putting out great screenplays because you are and I give you credit for your work, all I'm saying is that I put alot of effort in a short amount of time and turn out screenplays that are screen ready and not everyone could do that. Yes I do alot of rewrites and I have never said I'm a perfect writer because there is simply no such thing, but 9 times out of 10 a rewrite for me isn't a complete rewrite and is something that occurs because of an actor leaving the project so we have to remove their character from the script completely or because we cut a character from the story. I never do unneeded rewrites and I try to keep them to a minimum. In closing I would like to say that I feel that being a successful writer and having the ability to be able to write quickly comes from ALOT of prep work, in that I never go to script without a shit ton of planning the killer, backstory, characters, the world the story takes place in the kills are all planned out in advance and I build the story around the kills .
STAY HUMBLE, STAY HUNGRY MY FRIENDS :) We all have demons that we battle weather it's drugs, booze, pills, or something as simple as a fear of failure. I have a different type of Demon inside me that I'm in a constant battle with to keep it chained up because I fear what would happen if it were to be released from it's chains and loose on the world .
While it doesn't have a name, this Demon is mean, angry, cunning, vicious, and blood thirsty. It will devour anything and anyone it comes in contact with so it's important for me to always keep it contained and under control. Recently the Demon has been more restless and angry and it's becoming harder to keep him chained up, I fear that his escape could happen at any moment ... If and when that happens I feel sorry for anyone in it's path ..... The Demon Is Coming !!!!! I get alot of emails daily and most of them are great e-mails even if they have a negative tone to in them I can usually find something cool about every interaction with fans but lately there have been an influx in emails that have alot of labels in them, and they are comical if anything I know they are mean spirited names but I find them funny and I will give you a LIST of words that are in just about all the emails .. I will list the word and how I feel about that label. WEIRD : Well this can mean any number of things people who use this word to describe me should come at me with something a little more specific and I don't know possibly something alittle more original and better thought out, maybe, no ?? SICK : No I feel fine thanks for your concern though ... ODD : I was born in an odd month, on an odd day but in an even year, hmmmm not sure this claim is valid ?? FREAK : What I do with my wife in the comfort of our play room is non of your business now is it ?? DISGUSTING : Hmm I might be but who are you to throw around big words like this when you probably had to look it up before you used it, just a thought. DISTURBED : Awesome band, I love "It' Been Awhile" . Keep supporting them !! MENTALLY ILL : This may or may not be true but my therapist says I'm making amazing forward progress so there's always that, right ?? DERANGED : I will try to become more organized will that make you happy ?? TWISTED : Not a fan of the tea that is twisted, thanks for the offer though ... BLOOD THIRSTY : No I'm more of a Diet Mt. Dew kinda guy, I'm diabetic afterall so I have to watch my sugar intake .. UNBALANCED : I only lose my balance when my blood sugar is outta wack so I'm balanced 99 % of the time, it must be nice to be perfect ... MAD : Not really, I'm generally a happy person, look at you being all Judgy McJudgerson over there. INSANE : Me, Insane ?? I mean I guess it's possible but it takes one to know one so what does that say about you, hmmmm ?? CRAZY : My wife says I drive her crazy so she's crazy not me, just sayin' . VIOLENT : Did you ever stop to think that maybe me writing about killing characters that I created for the sole purpose of killing them is in a way therapeutic and keeps me from really going off and killing a motherfucker in real life ?? Okay people that was alot of fun to write but on a serious note, words hurt people, well others besides me because I don't let people bother me, I am all of these things and I'm 100 percent okay with each and every word I wrote because I know who I am, where I came from and the kind of person I am in real life. Understand the things I write about in my scripts aren't who I am in real life they are characters in a story and they either do weird sick shit or have weird, sick shit done to them but it's all made up I wouldn't ever really haul off and stab some one 37 times but Mortis would be cause I told him to with the power of my creative mind and because he's a creation in my head he does what ever I want him to do .
STAY HUMBLE, STAY HUNGRY :) Word broke today that Friday The 13th will be TV show on the CW network this year and there is already a ton of negativity on social media about the project my question is why ?? This is a HUGE issue I have with horror fans more so then any other genre, you haven't seen a single image from the show, not a single clip of footage, no one has been cast, no writers or directors have been attached to the project yet you feel it's time to start trashing the show already, I don't get it ??
Look at Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens it's the highest grossing film of all time and after many people had gone to see it and loved it they turned around and trashed the movie on the internet ?? Why ?? you spent all that money to tell people you loved it the first time you say it and then turned around to tell people all the shit you didn't like about every other time you PAID to watch it !?!?!?? In what fucked up logic does that make any sense at all ?? I mean I know you haave the right to bitch because you paid your money but you saw loved it the first time you saw it and then the other 7 times you hated it ... Really ?? I'm a BIG Jason fan and while I love the movies I think a TV series could work on many levels, mainly if they tie up loose ends in the movie series or set the show in a time prior to the films like the events leading up to Jason's death. or they could use this TV series to build steam towards the next movie which has had many false starts and is in limbo now . I love all the classic slasher movies and I'm a fan of them all even though I focus on Jason, Freddy, Michael and Ghostface for the most part. Jason is an ICON in the world of film NOT just Horror but across many genres as well as music, tv shows, comics etc. Jason is the man period ! While this show on the CW could fail why are we already hoping it does ? Lets give it the benefit of the doubt and watch it before we start trashing it. I think and hope the show will do well if it's well written and has a specific vision for the season, if they are all over the place it will tank fast but if they write it well and stay true to the Friday story I think it WILL be a HUGE success . Scream is a perfect example of a movie that they moved to TV and it worked out very well. I loved the series and can't wait for Season two later this year. I think If Bradon James (The killer on the Scream series) can work, Jason or Mrs. Voorhees for that matter can not only work on the small screen but could be very well done if we the FANS get behind the project and support it . Think about how awesome it will be to see Jason or Mrs. Voorhees slashing people up on TV week after week and all the things they can do with the show which even in a limited 13 week run is 13 HOURS of bloody murder to watch. So don't knock it until we see what they are doing with it people, come on give it a chance. Stay Humble, Stay Hungry my friends .. I find it funny that people have been asking me all weekend about rewrites and basically you have all been asking the same questions. So I will answer them here and get them out of the way and end this blog with an update on Sins of Man II : Vengeance. QUESTION : Why do you do so many rewrites ?? ANSWER : Because weather I like them or not rewrites are an import part of the creative process. Many people that don't write misunderstand the term rewrite as to mean a COMPLETE rewrite from the beginning and for me (personally) a rewrite could be as simple as changing a character's name, who they are in the story or changing a few scenes, yet not the whole script. Rewrites help writers and directors get their stories hashed out and hopefully provide the best film possible for their fan base. QUESTION : How do you approach a rewrite ? ANSWER : It all depends on what I'm rewriting, if it's a character's name I look at the script and make note of every time the character speaks or it mentioned in the script and make the changes accordingly. If it's changing character's death scene (I do this often until I find something I really like) I look at the prior deaths in the movie and try to build on them in intensity etc. QUESTION : What is a good number of rewrites before moving on with production ? ANSWER : As many as it takes to get the script the best it can possibly be. I rewrote the script for Wicked Carnival 15 times before the final draft was good enough to turn over to readers. Sins of Man : Rise of Mortis was rewritten 12 times so I feel there is no "magic number" of rewrites. QUESTION : When is the worst time to have to do a rewrite ? ANSWER : This one is easy speaking form experience I would day for me the worst time to have to do a rewrite is on set in the middle of shooting, it's time consuming when you're trying to direct a scene, your in scenes that day and you have to rewrite dialog due to a cast member not showing up on the last day of shooting . QUESTION : Rewrites are important but can be avoided if you ...... ANSWER : I laughed for like 5 minutes when I read this question and it was the most often asked one, I was like WTF !?!?! Rewrites are impossible to avoid, they are a part of the job and will happen even on the biggest films by the best writers on the planet. As much as I dislike rewrites because I try very hard to get the details right the first time I do have to rewrite and rewrite and rewrite again until I get it right and the flow of the story is perfect. update on sins of man ii : vengeance !(Hopefully) the final draft of Sins of Man II : Vengeance has been sent to my Executive Producer Chris Fyfe and I'm awaiting word from him to send it to the cast I think with the changes that were unavoidable we were able to come up with smart and creative ways to fill plot holes and work the story in a slightly different direction that horror fans will enjoy.
STAY HUMBLE, STAY HUNGRY MY FRIENDS :) Due to reasons beyond our control It is with a heavy heart that we here at Wicked Carnival Productions announce that Ken Messier and Carrie Baker will not be returning for Sins of Man II : Vengeance.
We would like to thank them both for all their hard work on Sins of Man : Rise of Mortis, they were both a huge part of it's success, we wish Ken and Carrie nothing but success in all of their future endeavors . After two days of auditions and having some amazing actors and actresses come in to read for parts my Executive Producer Chris Fyfe and I have selected these talented people to join our returning cast members in Sins of Man II : Vengeance which is due out on DVD on Halloween . IT'S ABOUT TO GET REAL IN SANDY CREEK !! Caitlynn McCauley has joined the cast of Sins of Man II : Vengeance She will be playing the role of State Police Detective Nyssa Roberts . Caitlynn comes to Wicked Carnival Productions with a passion for acting, a drive to succeed and a willingness to learn along the way . she now can mark being in a movie off her "bucket list" . She is a smart women who is strikingly beautiful and will bring everything she has to set during filming . I think Mortis might have his or her bloody hands full with this one here he or she might want to eat some Wheaties before messing with Detective Roberts . We have added Briana Czarkowski to the cast of Sins of Man II : she's a cool ass chick with a ton of upside. Briana will be playing Heather Steele who has an interesting story line in this film and as it plays out you will love and hate her . Briana comes to us with a lot of passion and she's very excited to bring her attitude ans excitement to set this spring . Briana brings a bit of hip hop flavor to Sins of Man II : Vengeance which will add something interesting to the film, know what I'm sayin' ? Daniel MacInnes has joined the cast of Sins of Man II : Vengeance as the cocky, self centered med student Bryce Ripley . This character is modeled after that one friend we all seem to have that feels he is above everyone his closes friends and even his girlfriend. Daniel comes to us with an attitude that he wants to have fun and make a movie. I really enjoyed his audition and he really put alot into the reading . Trevor Ponomarenko-Story has joined the cast and will be playing the character of Grant White. Trevor has wanted to make a horror movie since he was a little boy and we here at Wicked Carnival Productions are happy to help him make that childhood dream come true :) Danielle Buck or as I call her "Bucky" and I have been friends on facebook since before Sins of Man : Rise of Mortis came out on DVD. Bucky said she has always wanted to be in a movie and we have been talking about her coming in for an audition for about a year. When she came into the room and expressed how much it would mean to her to be cast in the movie I knew I wanted to cast her and we had her read for several roles and we are happy to say we selected her to play Crystal Williamson . Cynthia Claudio comes to Sins of Man II : Vengeance with a long resume and an even longer list of unique skills that she will being with her as she tackles the role of Dr. Sidney Gunnar. This is a character is something that I feel will challenge Cynthia to stretch her range on screen and we all get to watch it happen . Cynthia will have her hands full with bodies in this movie as I'm sure Mortis plans to rack up as many victims as he or she can ! Courtney Patrakis has been cast as Lar Gray in Sins of Man II : Vengeance, her character is alot like her real life personality I think Courtney or as I call her CJ has a spunky attitude and it will come across to the audience watching the movie . She's smart, funny and has a crazy side too :) Timothy Ashlock has been cast as Detective Howard in Sins of Man II : Vengeance. Tim comes to us with a passion for acting and is willing to learn, he's got a great attitude and will bring it on set this spring !! Wicked Carnival Productions is happy to announce the addition of Sheri Collins to the cast of Sins of Man II : Vengeance . Sheri will be playing te role of Adrienne Carpenter . Sheri comes to us as some what of an Indie film darling with roles in, How To Kill A Zombie Violent Monday Ghostship Chronicles : Origins Cowboy Spirit She has also been in the Big Screen hit Grown Ups 2 as well as the TV Series Paragods . We look forward to working with her on this film . So now that we have added this group of passionate actors & actresses to the cast to play a deadly game of cat and mouse with the blood thirsty Mortis who will live and who will die ?? You'll have to grab Sins of Man II : Vengeance on DVD this Fall to find out !!
We have held two auditions and cast is being selected for Sins of Man II : Vengeance, I mean we wouldn't want Mortis to run out of victims, would we ??? We are assembling an interesting group of actors to be in this movie in some cool roles that we feel they fit into nicely. We will be making announcements here on the Website as we make the casting official . Sins of Man II : Vengeance will be an awesome experience for all involved and we will do our best to bring you a bloody, gory mess in the end :) Stay Humble, Stay Hungry my friends ! |
